Explanation of the FP Journe Tourbillon Souverain

FP Journe Chrono Sovereign

Today I'm explaining to you a little about the FP Journe Tourbillon Souverain, the brand's emblematic watch.

In 1999, François Paul launched his brand FP Journe and presented his sovereign tourbillon with remontoire in the form of a wristwatch.

FP Journe

When the hairspring (2) of the balance wheel (1) (the heart of the watch) is in working order, it loses energy by contracting and relaxing, which gives the torque necessary to move the hands.

A secondary gear train is positioned to compensate for the loss of energy between the start and the end of the main spring's travel. The equalizer remontoir then makes it possible to regulate the torque transmitted to the escapement, and to improve the chronometric precision of the watch.

Winder of equality

On the sovereign tourbillon caliber 1403, we find the presence of this famous remontoire, but we also notice the inscription "Seconde Morte" The platinum case measures 40mm, for a thickness of 9.9mm Production is limited to one hundred parts in 15 years

The dead beat second (or dead beat second) is a horological complication invented in the 18th century and intended to "imitate" the movement of a hand on a quartz mechanism, while remaining entirely mechanical. Conversely, automatic mechanisms have a continuous seconds hand.

We will later witness the birth of the reset (19th century) which will equip chronographs for chronometric precision. Here is a video presenting the caliber 1403 equipped with a deadbeat second.

Thus, in 2004, FP Journe presented its new Tourbillon Souverain equipped with a remontoire and a deadbeat seconds. He then won the most prestigious prize of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, against monuments such as Jaeger LeCoultre or Vacheron Constantin.

GPHG Journe

The sovereign tourbillon has been produced in various versions, such as the Brass (yellow dial), Ruthenium (grey), Cœur de Rubis (red) collection, or even in Tantalum (blue), a unique model sold to combat Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
